Wind power works by harnessing the wind that naturally blows across the
surface of the Earth. Wind turbines are set up that spin as wind blows
across them, generating electricity. Wind power is environmentally
friendly, creating energy without producing any pollution, but wind does not blow constantly or in a predictable pattern.
Greater wind energy generation can be achieved by placing turbines offshore or
at high altitudes, and large wind farms can produce significant
quantities of electricity. Wind turbines are similar to the windmills of
old, making wind an established source of power.
