Tidal power, wave power and hydroelectric are three forms of energy generation based
on water. Hydroelectric consists of water from dammed lakes and rivers
going through turbines in the dam. Hydroelectric is environmentally
friendly, but most feasible sites around the world have already been
dammed. Tidal power comes from sea water moving through turbines as it flows in and out along tidal currents. The ocean tide is free, environmentally friendly, and predictable, which makes tidal power appealing. Wave power is a similar technology, in which the motion of waves is converted into electricity.
