Letter From The Editor

Letter From The Editor: August 2008

Dear Readers,

Renewable energy has been making headlines again. Famous Texas oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens has put forth a bold new plan to built the United States' largest wind farm in Texas, and he is pressuring the government to build power lines for wind farm infrastructure. Sharp has also been in the media with an ad campaign promoting its solar power services. It seems that now more and more people realize that renewable energy will be necessary for the United States, a fact made poignantly clear by rising gasoline prices.

For ethanol, however, there is a darker picture. The EPA may rule to lower the national ethanol mandate at the request of some officials concerned about food vs. fuel issues. And Brazil may complain to the WTO in an effort to lower the United States ethanol import tariff. None of this is good news for corn-based ethanol, but it won't be as bad for cellulosic ethanol once that becomes commercially viable.

In 2008 we hope to put out a series of new research reports designed to keep our readers educated. Please come back soon to see what we have published.

We hope that you find this site to be useful, and we look forward to seeing you come back again. Thank you.
