 Green building consists of creating buildings that are environmentally friendly, mainly by being energy efficient. The Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star initiative focuses on green building and energy efficiency, and the Green Building Council's LEED rankings have become a popular rating method.

Pollution credits, also called emissions trading, is a system designed to make companies reduce toxic emissions. A limit to total pollution is created, and companies that pollute less can sell their right to pollute to companies that pollute more. Pollution credits are an imaginative way for government to help the environment.
